ABOUT

Julius Schepansky is a Montréal based concert artist with extensive international touring credentials. His stylistically diverse repertoire includes Baroque, Pre-Classical and Classical repertoire to commissioned acoustic and electroplay works written him. He has appeared at major venues such as MÜPA Budapest, the Wiener Konzerthaus, Konserthuset Stockholm, and L’Auditori Barcelona among others. Festival appearances include Schleswig-Holstein Festival, Klavier-Festival Ruhr and Heidelberger Frühling among others. His live recordings and live to air broadcasts have been featured on Bayerischer, Westdeutscher and Norddeutscher Rundfunk as well as other European Broadcast Union partners. A dedicated chamber musician, Schepansky performs regularly with bassoonist Mathis Stier. Recent highlights include a solo performance in the Alcides Lanza memorial recital at McGill University’s Lichtenstein Hall, appearances with conductor James Kahane and the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra and Montréal’s le Nouvel Ensemble Moderne with conductor Jean-Michaël Lavoie. A passionate collaborator Schepansky has commissioned works from an international roster of composers in Germany, Sri Lanka and Canada. Upcoming seasons include contracted world and European premieres on both sides of the Atlantic including five premieres in one program for the UofT New Music Festival 2027 and a solo debut recital at Germany’s prestigious Philharmonie Essen 2026. A laureate of the Nachwuchsförderpreis NRW and German National Music Competition Julius was also a Université de Montréal scholarship recipient. He completed his Master’s degree with distinction, his final recital cited as exceptional by the Président du Jury Jonathan Goldman. An accomplished jazz pianist and composer, Schepansky continues his jazz formation with New York–based pianist Glenn Zaleski. His interpretive interests range from progressive jazz, free improvisation, musicological research of facsimile manuscripts by J.S. Bach, D. Scarlatti, and C.P.E. Bach and informed period performance with keyboardist Boyd McDonald. Julius is currently enrolled in the UdeMontréal Doctoral Performance program mentored by Joseph Petric. Hailing from Lünen, Germany, Julius enjoys an active concert trajectory with international appearances from New York to Vienna, Bali to Senegal and Toronto to Budapest. He studied with Claudia Buder, Mie Miki and Geir Draugsvoll.
